‘Sydney & The Glass Slippers’

It was as if Cinderella was being acted out in our very own living room, of course, starring Sydney Marie Stewart. I bought a pair of rhinestone decorated blue and clear glittering Cinderella slippers that light up when a little princess walks in them. They’re plastic but are styled to look like those storied glass ones.

I thought those Cinderella slippers likely would be too small for Syd but I felt they would be good for party decorations if they didn’t fit her.

I had a pair of hot pink Barbie opened toe heels that I was sure she could wear so I let her try on those first. She got into them without a hitch.

When I showed her the Cinderella slippers her face instantly lit up. Those famous heels are certainly prized by little “Fashionista/Shoeaholic’s” like Syd.

After struggling for a few minutes Syd finally got one slipper on…but she couldn’t get into the other one. No surprise, she turned to her Prince…naturally, that would be Joe Bill. He helped Syd as she wiggled her foot back and forth, pulled as hard as she could and strained her little body. Finally, she did it… she got the second one on.

It didn’t matter that Syd’s feet were smashed into the slippers, the girl was thrilled. I know that look of happiness because for as long as I can remember I’ve seen my Mother wear numerous pairs of shoes and boots that she’s loved but didn’t fit her at all!

“Shoeaholics,” and you know who you are, will go thru anything to end up with the footwear that they (you) desire. Personally, I hate going shoe shopping and I’m sure that I’ve been scarred for life by being in shoe stores with my Mom when I was young!

By the way, I figure that you’d like to know what Syd wants to wear when she goes to bed now a days. Not those “Big Pajamas” that she just HAD TO HAVE. As a character in the spinoff from her favorite book “Pinkalicious” likely would say: “Big Pajamas are passé.”

Syd now wants to wear dresses. Not just any dress mind you…it has to be a TWIRRLING DRESS!

I’ve often wondered whether Syd was sneaking out going to Sixth Street to go dancing late at night…a girl seeking a TWIRRLING DRESS TO SLEEP IN gives one reason to pause. Perhaps because she’s been watching the Barbie version of “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” she might think that she’ll find her Prince Charming if she’s wearing a TWIRRLING DRESS to sleep in. But no matter what her motivation is, Syd wants to SLEEP IN A DRESS THAT SHE CAN TWIRRL IN!

Syd told me that she wanted to sleep in the gorgeous and extremely elaborate velvet and gold embroidered Princess gown that her parents gave her for her birthday. I explained to her that it would not be ‘comfy’ for her and it would be ‘ouchee’ which is a word that Syd uses instead of saying ouch.

I then found myself going over the FABRIC CONTENT of the fancy dresses in her closet as Syd tried to find a TWIRRLING DRESS that I’d LET her sleep in. After a good bit of time and detailed negotiations we finally reached an agreement that she’d sleep in her beautiful raspberry, ruffled ballerina dress…that certainly was a dress she could TWIRRL IN!

The very next time she needed to pick out something to sleep in I told her RIGHT AWAY that she could wear the raspberry ballerina dress.

Always a Fashionista, Syd added an accessory: SHE STRAPPED ON A BACKPACK! And mind you this is just before she’s ready to go to bed. We went downstairs so that she could see JB for a few minutes. He asked her why she was wearing a backpack and she told him: “Because I like it.” Then JB asked her: “WHY?” Syd replied: “Because it’s PINK!” No one can forget that SYD LOVES PINK. She’s a real life “PINKALICIOIS!”

Love, D2
