Because Sydney is a night owl, it’s hard for her to fall asleep. I sympathize with her because I’m a night owl too but I know that darling little girl needs to get a full night’s rest so that she won’t be tired at Preschool the next day. When Syd’s in bed after book reading and it’s time for her to go to sleep, she’ll toss and turn like crazy.
Her Grandmother Ama (Mary Ann) emailed me after I wrote a story about Sydney being given several awards at Closing Ceremonies for ‘Camp Sydney.’ Mary Ann said that when Syd’s visiting her that she should be given an award for ‘Having The Most Excuses For NOT Going To Sleep!’ That would certainly be an appropriate award for her here too.
The other night Syd had a bunch of requests AFTER she was in bed. She wanted something to drink, her newest ‘Big Pajamas’ were too warm, her nightgown just wouldn’t do and she wanted to brush her teeth. When I let her know it was too late to do that she informed me that her teeth were going to fall out if she didn’t brush them immediately. I convinced her that wasn’t going to happen and that she could brush them in the morning. Finally, Syd asked me to talk about when “EVERYONE IN THE WORLD LOVES HER.”
I often sit on the small bright yellow couch in Syd’s bedroom and count up to 100 before I leave her room. I thought it would be comforting for Syd to know that her family and friends love her. So when I’d reach an increment of 5 I’d put in someone’s name and say: “So and so loves you.” I went thru the close family members’ names and then added the catch all phrase: “All of your family loves you,” followed by: “All of your friends love you.”
When I reached 100 I told her: “EVERYONE IN THE WORLD LOVES YOU!” Right after I said that, much to my delight, Syd fell asleep. The other night she asked me to be sure to tell her that: “EVERYONE IN THE WORLD LOVES HER.”
I was happy to do that. After I used those magic words, Sydney The Awake Beauty became Sydney The Sleeping Beauty! (My guess is that this is just a temporary solution for getting Syd to fall asleep.)
Luckily, Baby James usually falls asleep almost immediately. Skyler told us a long time ago the way to tell that he’s ready to go to sleep is when he gets deliriously happy. And it’s easy to tell when that adorable baby is deliriously happy!
I’ve included cute pictures of Sydney & Baby James wearing brand new Tee shirts from their Daddy’s fun Website ‘Do 512 Family.’ It tells you what to do in Austin with kids. In case you don’t know, Jimmy’s highly successful ‘Do512.com’ website was voted ‘The Best Entertainment Website’ in 2010 in the Austin Chronicle Readers Poll.’ To see both sites, go to the Links We Like section on the navigation bar.
There’s a line in Willie Nelson’s popular country tune “Shotgun Willie” that could be the theme song for Baby James. It’s the part where the country star sings that ‘Shotgun Willie sits around in his underwear.’ Perhaps you’ve noticed in some pictures Baby James is running around wearing a top and just his underwear, his diapers.
When Child Fashionista and Style Icon Sydney Marie Stewart gets into her ‘casual wear’ at our house that means that she’s wearing a tiara, of course, but she’ll put it with something informal like a denim jacket, not a princess ball gown! I have a picture of her dressed that way.
I included a very short video of Syd & Baby James dancing together.
Baby James reminds me of the adorable “Dancing Baby” on the “Ally McBeal” TV show, which aired in the late 1990’s. Perhaps Syd has gotten some dancing tips from her iPad. Syd looks like she’s picked up some choreography from John Travolta’s character in the 1970’s blockbuster film “Saturday Night Fever.” She seems to have combined Travolta’s moves with the popular American all-female 1980’s band, The Bangles, hit song “Walk Like An Egyptian.” Watching his big sister, Baby James, turned those hand movements into The Royal Wave! Good Job, Sydney! Pip, Pip, Tally Ho and Good Job, Baby James.
Love, D2
