‘Sydney & James Wish You A Happy Fourth Of July’

Sydney has been sizzling this Summer. She and James have been very busy and are having lots of fun!

I was getting ready to write Syd’s name with a permanent marker on the goggles that Joe Bill bought her. She told me to make it SMS. I don’t know any other 5 year old asking that their initials rather than their name be put on their belongings. James, on the other hand, wanted me to mark his stuff Don Diego. That’s right Don Diego. That’s the name he’s currently using. As far as I know, he’s not in a Witness Protection Program! I think he just likes that name. I told him that I’d put a large ‘J’ on his goggles. Ultimately, he agreed that was a good idea.

Syd had a great time at Dance Camp. She and the other little girls had a dance Recital at the end of the week. I’d seen Syd do the dances the day before the Recital. I could tell that she didn’t know all of the steps. I wasn’t sure how she’d react when she didn’t do everything perfectly.

Mommy Skyler, Daddy Jimmy, James, JB and I went to the Recital to support our favorite dancer. Syd was about a half of step off most of the time. She’d look around and catch up. She was smiling and laughing. I think Syd probably thought that ALL THE OTHER GIRLS WERE OUT SYNC..NOT HER! When she’d get to the part of the dance where she’d shimmy her shoulders she did great. I think this was Syd’s ‘signature dance move!’

Girlie Girl Syd loves clothes and shoes. Often she’ll put together things that normally don’t go together. I’m posting pics of one of her creations. Young Fashion Designer Sydney took the lovely lavender party dress she was wearing and made it into a skirt to go with her casual shorts and Tee shirt. I know that Syd has gotten her ‘creative gene’ from her artistic Mommy. Skyler periodically paints the inside of their house different colors, moves around the furniture and comes up with beautiful new window treatments. The Stewart house always looks great. As they say, the apple usually doesn’t fall far from the tree!

I’m posting a Video of Syd and James with their Swim Coach Gwen Hurst. I’m including something clever that insightful Mommy Skyler wrote on her ‘daily pic’ about The Kids’ swim lessons.

BE SURE TO SEE THE DANCE VIDEOS AS WELL AS TWO SWIM VIDEOS.

Joe Bill and I hope that you have a fun and safe Fourth of July Week!

Love, D2

From Mommy Skyler’s “Daily Pic”

Sydney is in her third year of swim lessons with Gwen Hurst, a.k.a. The Swim Nazi; James, his second. Gwen has acquired this nickname because she takes very young children who are terrified of water, wanting their momma, untrusting of a complete stranger, and often sobbing and begging for mercy, and instructs them to jump into a cold pool. Fifteen minutes later, they are swimming. The immense pride and confidence they’ve gained help them overcome their fear, and they come back the next day eager to learn. Her classes last 15 minutes, with each student in class four consecutive days. By the the third class, her new students are swimming across the pool underwater, turning themselves in different directions, and floating on their backs for a minute.

This year Gwen is helping Syd and James refine their freestyle stroke. Sydney is learning to turn her head and take a breath in between strokes. James is learning how to use his arms.
