Living in Austin certainly has it's advantages when it comes to having Spring like weather in the middle of the Winter. Unfortunately, the people living along the East Coast have had a harsh Winter and it's only getting worse as The Relentless Blizzard of 2015 pounded parts of New York, Boston and much of New England with hurricane force winds, dangerously low temperatures, record amounts of snowfall and flooding. In contrast, it's sunny and it'll be at least 83 degrees here in Austin later today. Luckily, Joe Bill and I had a chance to play outside with Sydney, James and Jack on some recent warm afternoons. As you'll be able to tell from my pictures, The Kids had fun and had lots of reasons to want to sing the Beatles' hit "Here Comes The Sun!" Sometimes Syd acts like a little Mommy and sometimes she acts like a School Marm! For example, she makes sure that James adds new words to his vocabulary and that Jack doesn't eat too many sweets. At a Christmas party I heard Syd tell Jack in her best School Marm voice that he shouldn't eat both a donut and a cookie...in her opinion her surrogate little brother was having way too much sugar and she let him know about it!!! With no prompting from us, the other day Syd wrote down her list of 'WAYS TO LEARN!' (1) Go to school. (2) Keep your eye on the ball. (3) Practice. (4) You must watch. (5) You must have patience. (6) You must wear shoes. (7) Listen to your teacher. (8) Ask questions. (9) Pay attention. The thing that I think is the cutest is that she included the instruction that YOU MUST WEAR SHOES. I feel she wrote this because since birth she's been a SHOEAHOLIC!!! Sydney and James often draw pictures for Mommy Skyler as well as write her sweet notes when they're at our house. I've included a letter Syd wrote her Mommy before Christmas. It'll melt your heart! Dear Mommy, I love you very much and I hope you have a great Christmas break. You are the best Mommy ever. Love, Sydney Jack, the darling little neat freak, was busy cleaning the leaves off our deck. At one point he held an orange bucket and little shovel. Later he really got into it by using our broom! We promise that we're not making Jack do this and we're not bribing him. He just likes to clean things....and we say: "Good job, Jack!" I've included a cute Video of Jack looking at himself in my makeup mirror in the kitchen. He flipped it around to the magnifying side and announced: "I LOOK LIKE A GIANT DUDE!" Joe Bill and I hope that you'll have a warm Winter and will have lots of reasons to feel like singing "Here Comes The Sun!" Love, D2
