‘Sydney: I Have to Find a Prince!’

Princess Sydney Marie Stewart loves everything about royal life and she loves everything about weddings so Friday, April 29th was a red letter day since the Wedding of the Century was taking place as 2nd in line to the British throne His Royal Highness Prince William Arthur Philip Louis Mountbatten-Windsor married certainly uncommon British “commoner” Catherine (Kate) Elizabeth Middleton with all of the pomp and pageantry that one country could offer.

News coverage started at 3am Austin time as the 1900 fashionably dressed guests in London arrived at the majestic Westminster Abbey at 8am British time for the wedding that was to begin 3 hours later. It’s estimated that over 2 billion people worldwide saw the ceremony. Syd was going to be one of them since I’d recorded all of the events so she could see them when we brought her over after preschool.

It’ll be no surprise, that Child Fashion Icon Princess Sydney picked out a beautiful pink Princess dress, matching pink Princess heels and a new tiara, one that looked better than Kate’s, as her outfit to wear while watching our TV. She found a pair of fancy lace gloves in the closet but decided they were too scratchy. Syd wanted to carry a small white satin basket, which she asked me to fill with JEWELS! I promise that I didn’t make that up. It’s clear that the girl has style. Later she liked some pretty silk flowers I handed her. Since she knows all about bouquets as part of a wedding ceremony she decided she didn’t need the basket…or perhaps she didn’t want the basket anymore because I hadn’t filled it with jewelry!

Then Syd enthusiastically announced that she had a mission: “I HAVE TO FIND A PRINCE!” Joe Bill asked her: “Why?” Syd immediately answered back: “BECAUSE I WANT TO GET MARRIED!”

Syd sat on JB’s lap and intensely watched every wedding detail on our TV. At one point she went into a kitchen drawer and got out our binoculars so she could see things closer, even though we have a very large HD Television.

Stylish Sydney knew that Fergie and Prince Andrew’s grown daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were fashion flops when she saw one of them wearing what looked like an octopus on her head or perhaps the hat was some strange form of antlers. The British Press dubbed them ‘Tweedledum’ and ‘Tweedledee’ from “Alice in Wonderland!” Yikes! That isn’t the way you’d like to be described at the Wedding of the Century! Wait until “The Fashion Police” ridicule them.

If anyone was looking for Queen Elizabeth it was easy to spot her…that’s because she was wearing a bright yellow dress, coat and hat. Syd loved the fact that she carried a purse…a white one…in case you wanted to know. Syd’s a huge accessory fan.

Syd did notice Prince Harry…but what woman didn’t? The guy is a hottie. I told Syd he was single. After I explained what single meant, Harry became a top candidate in her search for a Prince! Soccer star David Beckham was the prettiest person at the wedding but since he’s married he wasn’t a good candidate for Syd!

On the subject of great looking people, gorgeous Kate looked beautiful in her understated yet elegant ivory gown with an intricate lace bodice. Prince William looked dashing in his Irish Guard honorary Colonel red tunic. Syd loved knowing that the youngest member of the bridal party was 3. Syd smiled and said: “Just like me!”

Syd thoroughly enjoyed the choir music in the majestic Abbey so we listened to that for awhile. The girl easily goes from dramatic Lady Gaga tunes to inspiring Anglican Church music. I pointed out the avenue of 20 foot high Summer Maple trees that had been brought in to make the immense Abbey have a more intimate feeling. The stained glass windows and the high vaulted ceilings were spectacular.

This is not only the Wedding of the Century but it’s a Fairytale Wedding. The British newspaper “The Telegraph” reported that the last time a “commoner” married a royal in proximity to the throne was when Anne Hyde secretly married James II in 1659.

As we all know, titles are very important in British Society. I must point out that Sydney Marie Stewart has a higher ranking than Kate, who is now Catherine Mountbatten-Windsor. According to Buckingham Palace the Queen has given Kate the title of Her Royal Highness Catherine The Duchess of Cambridge. Officially she is NOT Princess Catherine NOR is she Princess Kate. But our girl Sydney remains PRINCESS SYDNEY MARIE STEWART!

Love, D2
