‘Sydney Equals Sunshine’

I appreciate all of the kind emails I’ve gotten since I started writing “The Sydney Chronicles.” It’s clear that people really care about the Stewart family. Learning about Sydney’s life seems to lift people’s spirits. Joe Bill and I feel that being with Syd and Baby James certainly lifts our spirits too.

I recently wrote Skyler a personal note saying that Sydney is like the sun…she brightens everything around her. Her hugs and kisses warm all of us inside and out. She says happy and sweet things, her beauty and kindness always shine thru, she’s a caring person, she’s really smart and she’s lots of fun to be with.

Sydney is very lucky that Skyler and Jimmy are her parents. As the saying goes: “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”

As many of you know, Sydney is an extremely loving child. She kisses not only people she’s close to but also things. Of course, she kisses her dolls and stuffed animals but I’ve seen her kiss pages of the books we’re reading, the screen for my portable DVD player and even water in the bathtub. Yes, she likes to kiss water from time to time.

Earlier this week I wrote about Syd now liking and loving her baby brother. I’ll let you know how things have changed.

Syd used to quiz us in the car about whether Baby James was going to be at her house when the three of us arrived there. I think that she was secretly hoping to hear that the adorable little guy had taken all of his blue and boy type belongings and had moved out. But no such luck. She’d hug him but you could tell she’d rather squeeze him really really tight than give him a loving hug. If he’d want to sit on the couch she’d muscle him out of the way. When they were in the bath together she’d enjoy pouring huge amounts of water on him and splashing him. It was if she’d LET him be in the bath with her but she really didn’t want to PLAY with him. And we’d seen her drag his cute little green and white fabric chair over to the front door…hoping that he’d take the hint and LEAVE!

But now Syd kisses and hugs him in a sweet way. She’s happy to see him when she gets home. She was even helping him get up on the couch so that he could be near Mommy when Skyler was reading to them. The other night she was disappointed that he’d already had his bath. She was encouraging him to take another one so that they could play together. I think that a real test of the fact that she likes him is that she lets him sit in her Pink Jeweled Musical Princess Chair without shrieking at him to leave her things alone (like she used to do.)

I have to add one thing that Syd does NOT want him to do is to wear her stylish brown fur fashionista boots. Joe Bill, who’s sometimes a bigger kid than Sydney and Baby James, put Syd’s favorite boots on him when she wasn’t looking. Baby James was smiling knowing that he was wearing HER SHOES…something that would drive her nuts. Even though she isn’t 3 years old yet Syd is as crazy about cool shoes as the women on the hit show “Sex and The Single Girl.” Syd came unglued when she realized that Baby James was wearing HER SHOES!

You’ll be happy to know that JB, the trouble maker, has agreed not to do that again! But other than not letting him wear her fancy fashionista footwear Syd is all about being nice to her Kid Brother. Together we should say: “Good job, Sydney!”

Love, D2
