Sydney Marie Stewart makes comments about nearly everything. I’m not sure if you remember that one day she told me that our toilet, potty to her, was perfect for a little girl and wasn’t too loud. Well, I’d have to say that her latest compliment also fits into a similar “Good Housekeeping” category. The other day she told me that our kitchen trash can smelled good. Yes, that’s right, our trash can smells good. You can’t imagine what a high compliment this is since Syd goes around telling people when they smell bad. If someone has eaten something she thinks has a bad odor she’ll ask them to go brush their teeth. This request, or in her case a command, is given to children and adults.
Syd frequently tells her Kid Brother that he smells bad. This has absolutely no impact on James. Sydney can be seen holding her nose telling James he smells and the little guy doesn’t pay one bit of attention to her! Perhaps, handsome actor Matthew McConaughey, could once again be one of James’ role models. We know James likes to go naked like McConaughey has been known to do…but one of the other things the Austin movie star is known for is smelling bad. He’s admitted during TV interviews that he doesn’t use deodorant. Yikes! Let’s hope that James doesn’t hear about that!
I’ve told you that Syd is a ‘Strategic Thinker.’ This is a great example. She was telling Joe Bill and me that she wanted a car…a pink one, of course, but she was worried that she didn’t know how to get anywhere. She wasn’t worried about how to DRIVE the car…she was concerned that she doesn’t know DIRECTIONS! I didn’t want to tell her that lots of cars have GPS devices in them. There’s no need to encourage her to drive since she’s only 4!
In the photos I have some pictures I took of Syd and James when we went for a walk in our neighborhood. JB and I asked Syd to pick out something she’d like to wear. Ever the Child Fashionista, she put on a garnet colored velvet party dress with lace trim and ribbons to wear on our walk. Who knows, we might have found a neighborhood party to go to and she’d be decked out for it. James went for a blue ‘Rock & Roll Legend’ Tee shirt, which was perfect for a stroll around West Lake. I’ve included a number of pictures because I thought that James was being the typical “little brother” as he made faces while Syd was trying to look picture perfect!
I’ve also added photos of Syd and James together. Syd often teaches James how to write his name…something she mastered a while ago. They frequently chase each other around and really have lots of fun being together.
Sydney and James have wonderful imaginations. In 3 pictures I’ve posted Syd is pretending that the blue and green booster seat she’s sitting in is Rapunzel’s Tower. Syd’s mood changes from pensive to happy as she’s being rescued by her imaginary Prince, as James calls out: “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!”
The last two photos are some of our favorites from 2010. I’m planning to share some pictures I took before I started writing “The Sydney Chronicles.”
