Much to our delight, Sydney spent a lot of time at our house this Summer at what Joe Bill jokingly refers to as ‘Camp Sydney!’ We loved having Guest Camper Baby James when he came over to play. Since the kids were getting ready to start Preschool for the Fall we thought that we’d have Closing Ceremonies at ‘Camp Sydney’ and hand out awards. It’s no surprise that Syd and Baby James swept the Awards Ceremony since they were the ONLY campers!
Sydney racked up Awards for being ‘Best Swimmer,’ ‘Best Camper,’ ‘Miss Congeniality’ and ‘Camp Princess.’ She even received a Special Certificate for being ‘The Camper Who Used The Most Band-Aids!’ Baby James wasn’t even a close 2nd. That reminds me that I need to buy more boxes of Band-Aids.
When the Awards Ceremony was over, Syd asked me where was the certificate for being ‘Most Beautiful?’ At first I thought that it was funny that Syd, who is beautiful, wanted a certificate to proclaim that she’s beautiful. I’ve been thinking about that and it seemed like a good time to talk to Syd about people being beautiful on the INSIDE is more important than being beautiful on the OUTSIDE. Both Syd and Baby James are really sweet…They say and do lots of sweet things. I’ve told Syd that being kind is more important than being beautiful, even though we live in a world where beautiful people are paid more and get more attention than others who aren’t good looking.
Lately, Sydney has been letting us know how much she loves chocolate candy. We never gave her any candy, cookies or cake at our house unless she was at a party here. We always fed her only healthy things. Having seen how Syd acted when she ate sweets it seemed best not to give her any. Now she’d love for us to give her candy for a snack, for lunch and for dinner…but, of course, we won’t. We have given her Hershey Chocolate Kisses as rewards but now Syd is trying to “game the system.” Syd ACTS like she’s been hurt when, of course, she isn’t. She moans and groans. She tries to convince us that the only thing, other than a couple of Band-Aids, that will make her feel better are some Hershey Kisses. The little actress can put on a real performance.
I must reveal that Hershey Kisses also come in handy for getting Baby James into his car seat. So if you see him getting out of JB’s car with a messy face you’ll know what we had to do to get him seated. My sister Rita wrote that we should come up with ‘THE NAUGHTY CAR SEAT’ and threaten him with that, but, unfortunately, that’s not a possible option! So when you read that the sale of Hershey Kisses has jumped up dramatically you’ll know why!!!!
This week I included 3 pictures that I call: ‘Ever the Detail Person, Sydney Inspects Pictures of Herself!’ That day she insisted on wearing a top that was meant for a NEWBORN TO 3 MONTH OLD BABY! For the record, Syd is 3½ YEARS OLD! She wanted to wear it and told me that it fit her perfectly. This is downright proof that the girl is a ‘Clothes Pony,’ who will certainly become a ‘Clothes Horse’ when she gets older!
We’re convinced that when Baby James gets older that he’s going to be the ‘King of Spin the Bottle!’
I’m going to give you some examples of why I think this is going to happen. First of all, Baby James is a Lover Boy. When our friend Carmen was leaving the house Baby James yelled out: “I love you.” As I was telling Skyler about this, Baby James announced that he was going to kiss his Mommy, Syd, me and Joe Bill. He kissed each of us on the lips loudly saying mmmmm. I thought that Baby James was letting us know that he was going to kiss Mommy again and that he was then going to kiss me again. The following evening when JB and I were talking to Skyler about her kissable little boy, I found out that Baby James wanted SKYLER AND ME TO KISS EACH OTHER, WHICH, OF COURSE, WE DIDN’T! After that Baby James told JB THAT HE SHOULD KISS SKYLER,WHICH, OF COURSE, HE DIDN’T! That was the moment that JB and Skyler called things to a halt but it certainly made us think that ‘Spin the Bottle’ will be part of Baby James’ future…and it’s possible this could happen while he’s still in Preschool! Yikes!
