Gigi and Joel sent us a cute VIDEO of Jack and Benny running. It reminded me of the iconic opening of the mega hit movie ‘Chariots of Fire.’ I’ve combined the two. I hope that you’ll like what I’ve done.
Sometimes Jack is like a little professor when he gives us his observations about his Kid Brother. Here’s a good example: the other day I brought some watermelon out by the pool to give to Jack, Benny and Joe Bill while they rested up from swimming.
As I put down the tray, the first thing that Jack said was: “You have to watch Benny because he scoops up food like he’s a VACUUM CLEANER!”
That’s exactly how Benny eats. We’re always telling him not to eat so fast and not to put so much food in his mouth at the same time. We’re afraid that he’ll choke. Looking like a squirrel with his chubby cheeks packed with food, Benny will just smile at us and keep on eating!
James and Sydney are always looking out for their little Brother too. They both love playing with the adorable 10 month old.
Baby Sam looked like he was E.T. when James was pushing him in his stroller. By the way, Sammy is what I call a ‘Stroller Snob.’ Recently he refused to be pushed around in a cute green canvas umbrella stroller that I have that Benny loved. Luckily, Skyler has given me a a fancy stroller that she had at her house. Sammy is happy that he’s now traveling ‘In Style’ when he’s over here.
Our longtime friend Mauri Moore Shuler was in town so that she could go to some graduation events for her niece. We’ve been friends since the time that we did News together at KPRC, the NBC TV station in Houston. Although she’s now living in Washington State, she’s always been a Texas Girl at heart!
Mauri joined JB and me at a fun special Ceremony for the Opening of Jerry Jeff and Susan Walker’s Collection of Music and Memorabilia called “Viva Jerry Jeff: The Origins and Wild Times of a Texas Icon” at Texas State University at the Alkek Library in San Marcos. It’s part of the Wittliff Collection of Southwestern Writers.
Jerry Jeff has come a long way from being named Ronald Clyde Crosby when he was born in 1942 in Oneonta, New York! He became famous after writing ‘Mr. Bojangles’ in 1968. The ‘Viva Terlingua’ Album recorded live in 1973 at the Luckenbach Dance Hall was a huge hit. JB and I have been friends with Susan and Jerry Jeff for a long time. Over the years Mauri, JB and I have known a lot about the ‘Wild Times of that Texas Icon & His Beautiful Wife!’
