While movie star Sandra Bullock retains the title ‘Miss Congeniality,’ Sydney Marie Stewart can be called ‘Miss Competition.’
Sydney loves winning more than anyone Joe Bill and I know. Even her Kid Brother James acknowledged it when he told us: “Sydney likes to win.” Frankly, that’s an understatement and I’ll tell you why. (By the way, Baby James now calls himself James.)
Syd and James love yelling in unison….especially when we’re in the car. They think that it’s funny and encourage each other to holler even louder. Boy, oh boy, can they get loud. That’s when I suggest that we play ‘The Be Quiet Game.’ My grandparents had my 2 sisters and me play that game when we were little and were noisy in the car.
The game is simple: People are eliminated when they talk or make a sound. The winner is the last person, who doesn’t make a sound.
James is a smart 2 year old but he either doesn’t understand the game or he enjoys being the center of attention. Right after the game begins, James starts talking and then breaks out into song. The other night he happily sang ‘The Alphabet Song’ 5 times. Yikes! He had the stage all to himself because Syd, JB and I were silent.
Joe Bill is usually eliminated next and then it’s down to just Syd and me. That normally talkative little chatterbox has the concentration to remain silent for 10 or 15 minutes. One day she’d been quiet until we’d reached our house. At the last minute Syd talked. JB announced I was the winner. Syd was furious and started crying.
The next day when we were playing the game it got down to Syd and me again. When we arrived at her home I figured that the game was over and that Syd and I had tied. But for Syd, the game was NOT over. She went in her house and hugged her parents WITHOUT SAYING A WORD. JB came over to me and told me that Syd was STILL playing the game! I ‘took a dive’ and talked so that JB could announce that Syd had won! Who knows how long she would have remained silent to win!
The other day when we were getting ready for Syd and James to get dressed to go home, we couldn’t find James’ shoes. I said that I’d give a prize to the person who found them. As it turned out, I located the shoes. Syd, who had NOT found them, ran over and said that she’d won and DEMANDED THAT I GIVE HER A PRIZE!
Syd is normally very messy at our house and doesn’t want to pick up a thing. I’ve just figured out how to cure that problem. I now make it into a competition to see who can pick up things the fastest. Syd loves to win, so she’s a master at cleaning up nowadays. Also, when we want her to put on her clothes or do something else we count. Syd loves to win those challenges too!
Sydney Marie Stewart is certainly a character…and it’s clear if you really really want to win, you should get her on your team!
I’ve included pictures of gorgeous Syd that I took at a plant nursery in Westlake not far from our house. It was a beautiful day. JB, Syd and I felt like we were walking in a park. I also have some photos of Syd and James having fun dancing in our hallway.
In addition, you’ll see James trying to copy what his Big Sister does. James was doing his best at trying to put on Syd’s pink princess panties. He was doing a terrible job. As much as he loves Dora I’m really surprised that he didn’t go for the Dora panties! I WON’T be saying: “Good job, James!”
Sometimes we send Syd and or James home in new Tee shirts because what they’ve worn to school has gotten very dirty. I bought this tie dye shirt for Syd but gave it to James to wear home. I didn’t realize until Skyler pointed it out to me that it had puffy sleeves. Sorry, James!
Love, D2
