‘James Asked Me To Drive Him In My Limousine!’

Writer's picture: DeDe WatkinsDeDe Watkins

When Joe Bill and I were driving Sydney and Her Kid Brother to our house the other day, James very sweetly asked me: “DeDe, will you please drive me in your limousine?” I told James: “If I had a limo, I’d be happy to drive you…but I don’t have a limo.” James, who’s very precise with his language, corrected me, by saying: “The word is limousine…not limo!”

James has been in my car once before. Apparently, he’d gotten the word limousine confused with the word convertible, which is what I drive. In one of her daily pics Skyler revealed that sometimes she slowly drives Sydney and James around their neighborhood circle allowing The Kids to stand up and put their heads out of the sunroof of her car with James yelling out: “Hello, my little neighbors!”

Recently, we drove Syd and James in my car along the private road near our house. The Kids were so excited that Syd told me that it was the most exciting thing that she’d ever done! Even though we didn’t see anyone that day, James yelled out: “Hello, my little neighbors!” I guess that he was practicing in case we saw someone.

The next day I did drive James and Sydney separately in my car, with them sitting in a car seat, going very slowly along the private road. It was an adventure. I pointed out the names of the flowers and trees along our route. Both Kids are quite the horticulturists knowing the names of lots of things that grow in Austin.

When I asked Syd which way she wanted me to drive, she immediately told me to take her to Starbucks! That’s one of her favorite places. I let her know that we needed to do that another day.

Sydney made a keen observation. She noticed that one of our neighbors has a very large chimney. Even though Christmas is months away, she told me that Santa would have an easy time visiting the people in that house!

When we saw a young couple walking along with their little baby in a stroller, Syd asked me to stop so that she could tell them that a baby was coming to our house. She’s always very excited when she knows that Baby Jack Melrose is coming over to play with her and James.

Baby Jack, who turns one year old at the end of this month, did come over. Once again, the three children had lots of fun playing together. The first picture is a perfect example of how well they get along. Sydney and James were really tickled that while they were feeding Baby Jack some of his favorite puff snack food, Baby Jack tried to feed James!

Sydney had a wonderful time delighting her little friend by playing a game of peek-a-boo. Syd looked really cute when she put her pink bear Lovie on her head. Then Baby Jack loved pulling it off.

By the way, I’ve included two special pictures of Syd and James. James looked really sweet while he was napping on JB’s couch. The other night when we were babysitting I told Syd that she needed to get into her sleeping position. This is what Syd CLAIMS is her sleeping position!
