One ‘Date Night’ at the Stewart house Joe Bill and I were taking James and Sydney to their parents’ bathroom to help them brush their teeth. When James saw a beer bottle that was left on his Mommy’s end table, in his little voice filled with concern, he blurted out: “Mommy forgot her beer!” James loves beer even though he’s never had any. JB pointed out to the thoughtful 2 year old that the bottle was empty and he didn’t need to worry about it.
Sydney wasn’t worrying about what to drink one night, she was worrying about what to wear. I was getting her dressed so that we could take her and James to Mary and Roy Spence’s spectacular ‘Trail of Lights’ Christmas Party that they were hosting in their wonderful backyard. We went last year with Syd and her family so she knew it was a One-of-a-Kind Holiday Celebration and she felt she needed a One-of-a-Kind Outfit!
I thought Syd would wear a fancy red velvet dress…but I was wrong. Sydney Marie Stewart, Child Fashionista and Style Icon, was asking for a Barbie Princess dress. I told her that wasn’t the right fashion statement for this occasion. Throwing her arms out wide in a dramatic fashion she announced: “I want something bigger…MUCH MUCH BIGGER…something a PRINCESS would wear!”
Always aiming to please, Syd and I went thru her closet at our house sizing up possible dresses. Eureka! We’d remembered a luscious long pink and white multilayered shimmering party dress made of lovely soft netting. Next, Syd quickly put on her sparkling Ruby Red Slippers. Of course, to top it all off, she wore a fancy pink tiara!
The final touch was a perfect white dressy coat I had for her. Syd wanted to wear it all buttoned up but I told her no one would be able to see her beautiful dress if she did that.
At the party when people complimented her, Syd would give them one of her dazzling smiles that shows her dimples and then she’d pull her coat open so that they could see her glamorous outfit. The girl simply oozes with style! I can’t give Syd all of the credit, since she has great fashion genes!
You’ll see Syd at the ‘Trail of Lights’ Party in the photos. It’s clear that she has a look of delight and wonderment. I don’t have a shot of James because he didn’t stand still long enough for me to take a picture. He liked running past the bars that were set up around the backyard!
I’ve included Hanukkah photos, past and present. In 2009 when Syd was 22 months old she celebrated her first Hanukkah with us. Every time I struck a match to light the Menorah, Syd yelled out: “Fire!” It was like having Hanukkah with Smokey the Bear! I have a picture of her in front of my Grandmother’s electric Menorah and one of Baby James in 2010 when he was about 17 months old. They both enjoyed celebrating Hanukkah with us this year too.
