We were happy to be babysitting both Sydney and Baby James recently. We thought it would be fun to go over to The UT Tower since Sydney sees that revered iconic structure every time we drive her from our house to hers. Syd always yells out: “There’s The UT Tower.”
On the way there we drove thru downtown and I pointed out City Hall to Sydney. She enthusiastically proclaimed: “It’s NOT City Hall. It’s SYDNEY HALL!” It’s clear that we’re all living in Sydney’s World…so why not consider City Hall, to be Sydney Hall!
We had fun at The Tower. Sydney was busy smiling and flashing her “Hook ‘Em Horns” sign at people she saw. Most of the building was closed because the Spring Semester hadn’t started yet. We looked across campus and could see the beautiful pink granite Capitol Building in the distance. When we pointed that out to Syd she started waving and yelling: “Hello, Lady”…you remember her good buddy, The Goddess of Liberty on top of the Capitol. The girl never misses any detail.
We plan to go back on the UT campus. In the future Joe Bill wants to show Syd and Baby James his pictures on the Intramural Wall of Fame over at Gregory Gym. I can’t wait to hear what questions she asks him. If JB is lucky Baby James will yell out: “WOW”….one of his favorite words. I’ll let you know how that goes.
I have to say that Sydney did the cutest thing as we were driving from Campus. When the kids were in the backseat, Syd grabbed Baby James’ hand and told him she wanted to hold hands. They’re so cute together.
It’s clear that Syd not only likes Baby James but that she loves him. She’s been really really sweet to him lately. He’s always been sweet to her. He’s no longer the interloper who’s entered her world.
Syd will sometimes still pull a toy away from Baby James and put it on her head so that he can’t reach it or she’ll take HIS FULL juice bottle and enthusiastically hand him HER EMPTY one…but things have changed.
What a wonderful situation for Skyler and Jimmy, who have worked hard to have their children love each other. No parent can ask for anything better than that. As Sydney would say: “Good job, Mommy & Daddy!”
Love, D2
