Benny looks cute no matter what time of day it is…but he looked especially cute the other morning. He now has something in common with Sydney and Movie Star Robert Pattinson.
I named Syd ‘The Best Bed Head of 2011’ with her ‘Runner Up’ being Movie Star Robert Pattinson. Benny clearly can be ‘The Best Bed Head of 2018!’ By the way, James and Jack have great hair too while Baby Sam doesn’t really have any yet!
Swimming is a big deal for the Melrose and Stewart Families.
Syd, who’s 10 now, learned to swim when she was just 2 years old. Her Swim Coach Gwen Hurst is considered Austin’s best swimming coach for children. Gwen has a method where the kids are signed up for 4 consecutive 15 minute sessions over 4 days. On the 4th day the parents get in the pool with their kids and Gwen gives them tips on how their children can improve their swimming skills.
Gwen also taught James and Jack how to swim when they were in 2 years old. This Summer it was 2 year old Benny’s turn!
The kids all cry but at the end of 3 days they can swim. This Summer Jack learned how to breathe correctly and how to improve his strokes and kicking abilities. At the end of the 4 days Benny proudly proclaimed: “Benny did it!”
Syd, who’s a graceful and gifted swimmer, has had private lessons from Coach Gwen for the past 7 years. She and James had too busy of schedules to take lessons this Summer.
One thing is for sure, Skyler, Jimmy, Gigi, Joel, Joe Bill and I are grateful to Gwen for getting The Kids to become great swimmers.

The Stewart Family had fun in their pool the other day. James decided to wear his pajamas. He had a great time having Daddy Jimmy tossing him around. Mommy Skyler was busy taking care of Baby Sam. Nanny Xio also loves being with him.
By the way, it’s never too late to attend your UT Graduation Ceremony. Judi Schimmel Santon, one of my close childhood friends and sorority sisters, hadn’t gone to her Graduation Ceremony when she graduated in 1968. Judi wanted to honor the memory of her parents. She contacted UT and they made arrangements for her. Judi, dressed in her traditional cap and gown, walked across the stage and got her History Degree when they called her name at the Hogg Auditorium located near the Student Union.
Afterwards, Judi, her friend Kathryn Nelson, Joe Bill and I celebrated at the Four Seasons Hotel. As luck would have it, we were seated by glamorous longtime Austin friend Gray Hawn, who’s a world famous Photographer and her beautiful daughter Joy Saxton, who has just written a wonderful children’s book called “Joy and The Far Away Land.” It’s about Love and Peace, which is something that we need more of in the World these days.
Much to our surprise and delight, Gray offered to take our picture, which I’ve included.
