The invitation that Joe Bill and I received to a fabulous Christmas Party hosted by our longtime friends Mary and Roy Spence read in essence: “The City of Austin’s Trail of Lights has been cancelled but we’ve set up OUR OWN Christmas Festival of Lights. You’re invited to our home and bring the ones you love.” Of course, we asked Skyler, Jimmy and the kids to come with us.
The party was awesome. The Spence’s invitation did NOT over promise. Mary and Roy had decorated their backyard with a jillion twinkling lights that were synced to Christmas music, there were a number of whimsical blow up Santas and lots of large Snowmen and cute Christmas Elves. The party was perfect: the weather was warm, the full moon was glowing a unique reddish tone, we had a great view of Lake Austin, as well as the sparkling lights of downtown and there weren’t many people there yet.
We arrived early and were lucky that Roy gave us a private tour leading enthusiastic Sydney and the rest of us across his large backyard. At one point Syd was telling her host: “Follow ME!” We thought that was kinda funny since Roy is one of the Co-Founders of GSD&M Ad Agency, which has been one of the most successful companies in our country. Syd’s leadership skills were certainly on display!!!
All night Baby James kept repeating: “WOW” which was the same thing that all of the adults were saying.
I must tell you that Sydney was the Best Dressed Female at the party…no offense, Skyler. Syd insisted that she be allowed to wear a beautiful, long, bright red dress which made her look like a little Princess. The tiny Fashionista was right. Everyone commented on her dress and the fact that she’s gorgeous. When people gave Syd a compliment she twirled around and gave them a big smile.
There was a wonderful buffet set up inside their fabulous house with all kinds of food ranging from turkey sandwiches, to cheese to pizza. Syd spotted the delicious desserts beautifully displayed on their formal dining room table. She quickly had gotten on one of the chairs and had planned to eat her desserts right there. I politely pointed out that we needed to go to the chairs and tables that had been set up outside. I do have to say that, food wise and for elegance, Syd really had picked out the best table! There’s no question that the girl has style!
Sydney was excited that gorgeous Gigi (Teague) Melrose was going to be at the party. It was the first time that Syd had met Gigi’s movie star looking, charming Aussie husband, Joel. Of course, Joel knew all about Syd and had seen lots and lots of pictures of her. Well, Syd was batting her long black eyelashes at him and being completely darling. When we were leaving Joel kissed Syd on the cheek telling her goodbye and wishing her a Merry Christmas. Syd giggled and gave him one of her award winning smiles…you know, the one, where you see all of her dimples. Joel asked if it was okay for him to kiss her on the check again…well, Syd was all a flutter. The only thing she didn’t do was toss back her hair…only because it’s too short to toss back!! No telling what she’s going to say to her little girlfriends at her preschool when she goes back after the Holidays. WARNING TO GIGI: It’s clear that Syd likes handsome men from Australia!!!
Sydney is gorgeous, bright, sweet and hilarious but MISCHIEVOUS at times:
Right after we’d gotten the kids home from that fun Christmas Party, Syd locked herself and Baby James in the downstairs bathroom. She’d taken her kid brother as a HOSTAGE! She’d gotten him in there by saying: “Baby James, come into my house.” Of course, he wanted to play with her so he rushed into the bathroom. He didn’t even KNOW that HE WAS A HOSTAGE!! Clearly, we knew that Syd wasn’t hurting Baby James. I’m sure that she thought what she was doing was funny. She kept pretending that she didn’t know how to unlock the door.
Once I told Syd that we were going to start watching a Barbie movie WITHOUT HER, she quickly figured out how to open the door. You know how much she loves Barbie. LET’S GIVE BARBIE A CHEER FOR RESCUING BABY JAMES! If the Barbie trick hadn’t worked, I figured it wouldn’t be long before Syd would want snacks or juice and would come out to get something.
By the way, Skyler headed to Home Depot so that she could redo all of the locks in their house. If you didn’t get a Swiss Army Knife for Christmas, don’t worry…you’ll no longer need one if you’re planning to visit the Stewarts! Joe Bill and I hope that you have a Healthy & Happy New Year!
Love, D2
