‘Baby Jack and Sydney Can READ Each Other’s Mind!’

Writer's picture: DeDe WatkinsDeDe Watkins

The other day Sydney spent the night at our house while James was at home with Mommy and Daddy. As a special treat for Sydney we asked Mommy Gigi if she would bring her adorable nearly one year old Baby Jack to our house for a ‘Play Date’ on Saturday morning. As you’ll be able to see, both Kids were ‘In The Pink!’ Syd, who’s 5 now, likes to dress up when Baby Jack is coming over. The Child Fashionista & Style Icon put on a long pink sequin covered spaghetti strapped costume with silver streamers and fake boa feathers that she cleverly teamed up with a white Tee shirt that had sequins and a little lace. You would have thought that Baby Jack got a Fashion Memo because he arrived wearing pink too! Sydney, who loves being a surrogate Big Sister, is now Baby Jack’s Reading Tutor too! She’s an enthusiastic and accomplished beginning speller and reader. Joe Bill and I love hearing her sound out words. It’s clear that Baby Jack was paying close attention to her every word. At one point he seemed mesmerized by the “Little Pig” story book when Syd was getting the small white piggy to slowly emerge from it! Then Syd put a bunch of Baby Jack’s favorite toys on the bed. They had lots of fun playing with them. I think that the thing that made Syd the happiest was when Baby Jack was sitting in her lap. She’s wanted this to happen for a long time. In the past when Syd had tried to hold him, Baby Jack had been a little ‘squirmy’…but not this time! The entire time that Baby Jack was at our house, once again, Sydney went into full ‘Mini-Mommy/Big Sister’ mode. She had good instincts about what to do. When he didn’t want his bottle, Syd suggested that we give him some of his organic pureed vegetables that came in a large toothpaste like tube. That was the right call. She’d heard Mommy Gigi tell us that sometimes Baby Jack drinks water from a special juice bottle that Syd diligently kept handy. She often danced around and made silly faces as a way to entertain him. JB and I are very impressed with her patience and loving behavior towards Baby Jack. I’ve also included some pictures of James reading a book that he thoroughly enjoyed. All three of the children love books…which makes us happy. I think that Syd and James like seeing Baby Jack with the same books that they were reading not too long ago. Also, they enjoy their roles as Tutors, Protectors and sweet Family Members! Love, D2
